Reaching the population known as the Millennium Generation or "Millenials” is a highly competitive process. These 77 million kids live in a world where the Internet and media have brought into reality the "global community and economy" touted in previous generations. This has left them with an innate sense of optimism for increased possibilities.
They have grown up in a time when parents and society have sought their protection against drugs through major events like the lawsuit against the tobacco industry and the war on illegal drugs. Youth community service is in vogue. The Millenials have replaced the apathy of Generation X with activism. However, for all of the optimism and advocacy on their behalf, Millenials have yet to kick the tobacco habit. The Partnership fully realizes that to successfully reach this generation with messages about the dangers of tobacco use and alcohol abuse, the traditional prevention mold of "lecture and pamphlet" has to be broken.
