How do you design a program that will change the way Mississippians view tobacco use?
The Partnership believes that a statewide cultural shift from tolerance to intolerance of tobacco use requires a variety of interventions. There is no magic bullet or single approach. A tobacco prevention program can only be effective by attacking the problem from many different directions at the same time.
The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi provides school-based and community program materials to help educate youth about the dangers of tobacco use. Our programs include:
- Youth programs that reach youth in grades K-12 both in school and community settings.
- Faith-Based Initiatives that empower churches to share messages about the dangers of tobacco with both young and old.
- Teacher Education that provides free classroom materials to educators, including teachers, counselors, coaches and school nurses.
- Policy support, including technical assistance and expert testimony, to help educate the general public and elected officials about the importance of clean indoor air ordinances and tobacco tax increases.
- A resource library that allows free use of educational videos and other health-related literature.
